60% of the rehabilitation work on the pitch of Al-Hassan Youth Stadium in Irbid completed

The Ministry of Youth is continuing the rehabilitation work on the pitch of Al-Hassan Youth Stadium in Irbid Governorate to address technical defects that emerged during excavation, and to complete infrastructure requirements in accordance with the necessary engineering standards, ensuring the pitch's efficiency and improving its drainage capacity in preparation for planting it with natural grass.

The Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the actual completion rate of the project has reached 60

percent, following the completion of the aggregate base course layers, while work on completing the drainage network continues in preparation for finishing the pitch preparation stages and planting it with natural grass.

The Ministry had previously awarded the stadium pitch rehabilitation tender at a value of 197,446 dinars, aiming to remove the existing grass and agricultural soil to a depth of 30 centimeters, and to supply new agricultural soil in preparation for laying natural grass rolls that were previously prepared in a nursery designated for this purpose.

According to the statement, excavation work began on May 17, 2026, and during its execution upon reaching the levels specified in the tender, technical defects appeared in the infrastructure work implemented under the previous tender No. 72/2015.

The defects included a deviation of the main drainage collection line from its expected engineering location, issues with the slopes of some sub-drainage lines and their connections, variations in the thickness of the gravel layer and the presence of large stones in a number of locations, in addition to tears and breaks in parts of the plastic layer beneath the pitch.

Consequently, a joint committee comprising the Ministries of Youth, Public Works and Housing, and the Royal Scientific Society was formed to verify the technical defects and determine the necessary remedies. The committee conducted a joint field inspection on June 11, 2026, to examine the condition of the pitch.

The statement explained that, based on a specialized report on geological studies, the committee recommended re-implementing a number of infrastructure layers, establishing a new drainage network in accordance with the required engineering slopes, and implementing gravel layers, a geotextile layer, a gravel filter, and a new irrigation network.

The recommendations also included preparing layers of washed sand and sand mixed with peat moss, culminating in the supply and laying of natural grass rolls.

According to the execution schedule, current work is expected to be completed within 30 days, followed by the phase of transporting and laying the natural grass rolls, which will last for another 30 days.

The statement indicated that the total cost of the project, including rehabilitation work and the supply and laying of natural grass, amounts to approximately 859,000 dinars, distributed as 181,000 dinars for the tender work value after calculating actual quantities, 458,000 dinars for the change order, 90,000 dinars for the cost of producing natural grass rolls, and 130,000 dinars for supplying and laying the grass.
