60% completion rate of Al-Hassan Stadium pitch rehabilitation

The Ministry of Youth is continuing the rehabilitation works of the Al-Hassan Youth City Stadium pitch in Irbid Governorate, to address the technical defects that appeared during excavation works, and to complete infrastructure requirements according to the necessary engineering foundations, ensuring the efficiency of the pitch and improving its water drainage capacity, in preparation for planting it with natural grass.

The Ministry said in a statement that the actual completion rate of the project has reached 60 percent, following the completion of the gravel sub-base layers, while work on completing the drainage network continues, in preparation for finalizing the stages of preparing the pitch and planting it with natural grass.

The Ministry had awarded the tender for rehabilitating the stadium pitch at a value of 197,446 dinars, with the aim of removing the existing grass and agricultural soil to a thickness of 30 centimeters, and supplying new agricultural soil, in preparation for laying natural grass rolls that were previously prepared in a nursery dedicated to this purpose.

According to the statement, excavation works began on May 17, 2026, and during their implementation and upon reaching the levels specified in the tender, technical defects appeared in the infrastructure works implemented under the previous tender No. 72/2015.

The defects included a deviation of the main drainage collection line's location from its expected engineering position, problems in the slopes of some sub-drainage lines and their connections, a variation in the thickness of the gravel layer and the presence of large-sized stones in a number of locations, in addition to tears and breaks in parts of the plastic layer beneath the pitch.

Consequently, a joint committee comprising the Ministries of Youth, Public Works and Housing, and the Royal Scientific Society was formed to verify the technical defects and determine the necessary remedies, as it conducted a joint field inspection on June 11, 2026, to examine the reality of the pitch.

The statement explained that the committee recommended, based on a specialized report on geological studies, re-implementing a number of infrastructure layers, establishing a new drainage network according to the required engineering slopes, implementing gravel layers, a geotextile layer and a gravel filter, and establishing a new irrigation network.

The recommendations also included preparing layers of washed sand and sand mixed with peat moss, up to supplying and laying natural grass rolls.

According to the executive program, current works are expected to be completed within 30 days, followed by the stage of transporting and laying the natural grass rolls, which will last for another 30 days.

The statement pointed out that the total cost of the project, including rehabilitation works and the supply and laying of natural grass, amounts to about 859 thousand dinars, distributed as 181 thousand dinars the value of the tender works after calculating actual quantities, 458 thousand dinars the value of the change order, 90 thousand dinars the cost of producing natural grass rolls, and 130 thousand dinars for supplying and laying the grass.
