Kvaratskhelia undergoes successful surgery

Paris Saint-Germain, the French and European champions, announced yesterday, Tuesday, that their Georgian forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia underwent "successful surgery to treat a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee," an injury that could sideline him until the end of the season.

The Parisian club explained that the player, who underwent the surgery at a clinic in the Qatari capital, Doha, "will now begin the rehabilitation phase."

Kvaratskhelia sustained this serious injury last Tuesday following a collision with Barcelona player Xavi Espart during the two teams' Champions League match, which ended in a 4-2 victory for Saint-Germain, threatening to end his season prematurely.

Sources close to the player, known by the nickname "Kvara," told Agence France-Presse last week that it is "difficult" at this stage to determine a date for his return to the pitch, noting that this type of injury requires an absence of more than six months.
