250 Water Harvesting Wells in Jerash This Year at a Cost of 375 Thousand Dinars

The Jerash Agriculture Directorate has initiated the drilling of 250 water harvesting wells in the governorate this year, with a capacity of 30 cubic meters per well, according to Jerash Agriculture Director Ola Al-Mahasneh.

Al-Mahasneh said that the cost of establishing a single well is approximately 1,500 dinars, and the directorate provides support to farmers within the governorate to establish water harvesting wells, which, according to her, have contributed to the development of home agriculture.

She explained that the directorate has implemented projects to line irrigation channels with a length of 2,100 meters, at a cost exceeding 60 thousand dinars, clarifying that the lining, which is done by covering the channels with cement, aims to reduce water seepage into the soil, and that these projects serve about 75 farmers.

Al-Mahasneh pointed out that about 32 farmers have obtained grants to establish wells within the water harvesting projects provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in addition to 6 families obtaining beehives, and two individuals granted to establish two mushroom production projects.

She explained that a number of projects whose owners have obtained grants have become productive and achieved economic impact through selling their products in the markets, affirming that the directorate continuously follows up with the beneficiaries of these grants, and provides them with support and technical guidance.
