16 olive presses ready for the pressing season in Mafraq

The Director of Mafraq Agriculture, Dr. Inaam Al-Mashaqbeh, expected Mafraq's production of olive fruit and oil to double compared to last year, when olive production reached 7,000 tonnes and oil production reached 1,500 tonnes.

She said that the directorate has renewed the licenses for all olive presses in the governorate, totaling 16 presses, in preparation for receiving olive fruits, pointing out that the licenses were renewed after three committees inspected the presses civilly and verified the availability of environmental and health conditions, the safety of the pressing equipment, and the procedures for disposing of olive fruit residue, popularly known as "Jift" (pomace).

She added that the procedures followed by the directorate dictate that presses are not allowed to operate until their licenses are renewed and compliance with the required conditions is verified, noting that the directorate's personnel will conduct field tours of the presses to ensure their commitment to the required conditions.

She called on citizens and farmers to delay the olive harvesting process and adhere to agricultural advice regarding harvesting and packaging the fruits, in order to obtain olive oil that is good in both quantity and quality.
