"Yarmouk" Launches Artesian Well Drilling Project Within Its Campus to Secure Its Water Needs

For the first time, Yarmouk University launched an artesian well drilling project within its campus, an unprecedented step aimed at enhancing its water security and providing self-sustaining water sources, marking a pivotal milestone that combines meeting the university's service needs and supporting the academic and research journey of its students.

In implementation of the memorandum of understanding between Yarmouk University and the Water Authority, the drilling of the artesian well in the university campus began, in the presence of the university president, Professor Dr. Malik Al-Sharairi, and the Secretary-General of the Water Authority, Engineer Sufyan Al-Bata'ine, in a move aimed at enhancing the water sources available to the university and supporting its immediate water needs, reflecting the importance of partnership and cooperation between national institutions in implementing quality projects with sustainable impact.

The drilling of this well is in a vital location on the university campus, due to the university's location in the heart of Irbid city, and the absence of a previous water well in the area, as a vital step to secure water needs, in addition to being a scientific incentive to search for future water points.

Parallel to the service aspect of the project, its academic and training aspect stands out through the involvement of third and fourth-year students and master's students in the Faculty of Science, training them on-site at the work site, and practically applying geological and water knowledge by learning about the nature of the layers being drilled and their terrain.

In the context of ensuring the safety of the working staff and the university community, all general safety measures followed at the site during implementation were taken, taking into account ensuring the project's smooth and safe progress.

In the same context, Al-Sharairi confirmed that the launch of this project represents a real model of fruitful and joint cooperation between educational institutions and national service agencies, explaining that the university always seeks to implement sustainable initiatives and projects that rely on national expertise and capabilities to meet the basic needs of the university campus and the local community in a scientific and studied manner.

He pointed out that the extended impact of this step lies in integrating theoretical knowledge with direct field training for students of the Faculty of Science and Al-Hajawi Faculty of Technological Engineering, allowing them to be present at the work site and witness geological applications and deal with mechanisms and technologies up close, which enhances their practical and applied skills and qualifies them to enter the Jordanian labor market efficiently and competently.

For his part, Al-Bata'ine pointed out that this initiative comes within the framework of the Water Authority's keenness to provide all forms of technical and logistical support to educational and academic institutions in the Kingdom, confirming the Water Authority's continuous endeavor to raise the efficiency of water resources management and achieve optimal exploitation of groundwater wells to serve the university and the local community.

He pointed out that the ongoing field work for drilling the well is being carried out according to the highest engineering and environmental standards and criteria practiced globally, confirming that the geological data and outputs resulting from the drilling process will contribute significantly to enriching scientific research and providing accurate databases that researchers and experts benefit from to study and evaluate water layers.

Al-Bata'ine renewed the Water Authority's commitment to providing the appropriate training environment for the participating university students and direct technical supervision over them, expressing his appreciation for Yarmouk University for coordinating and ensuring the adoption of general safety measures at the drilling site within the university campus.
