The West Irbid Municipality has completed the installation of solar energy systems at four locations, namely the main municipal building, the Soum area building, the municipal factory for metal and concrete industries, and the building of the West Irbid District and West Irbid Justice Court, with a total capacity of 114 kilowatts peak, as part of its move towards clean energy and reducing electricity consumption costs.
The installed capacities, according to the chairman of the municipal committee, Muhammad Al-Qudah, are distributed as follows: 60 kilowatts peak at the main municipal building, 6 kilowatts peak at the Soum area building, 24 kilowatts peak at the municipal factory, and 24 kilowatts peak at the District and Court building.
Muhammad Ali Al-Qudah, chairman of the West Irbid Municipal Committee, said that the project represents a practical step within the municipality's plan to transition to clean energy in its facilities, explaining that the installed systems will help reduce the municipality's electricity bill and redirect the savings towards improving services provided to citizens.
He added that the municipality is continuing to expand renewable energy projects to include other facilities, in line with its strategic plan for 2024–2028 and the state's sustainability goals, appreciating the support of the Renewable Energy Encouragement and Energy Efficiency Fund in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, which funded the project.
The project aligns with the municipality's vision of being "flexible in providing services and pioneering in sustainable investment and development," and supports its efforts to employ renewable energy sources in its public facilities.
