Palestinian human rights data reported on Sunday that 50 Palestinians have been arrested in the Hebron Governorate in the southern West Bank since Friday, bringing the total number to 26,000 since October 2023.
This came in a statement by the Palestinian Prisoners' Club (NGO), a copy of which was received by Anadolu, which addressed the arrests as a "continuous Israeli policy with multiple tools."
It added, "About 50 arrest cases have been recorded in Hebron Governorate since the start of the military operation on October 23, 2026, while field investigations have affected hundreds of citizens."
For the third consecutive day, the Israeli army continues to besiege the city of Hebron as part of a military operation that began on Friday, following an attack carried out by two Palestinians that resulted in the killing of two Israeli soldiers and the injury of 3 others; the army later killed the perpetrators of the attack.
During the first two days, the operation included the forced displacement of hundreds of Palestinians, in addition to the demolition of homes, facilities, and commercial shops, the destruction of infrastructure in the city, and the conversion of some homes into military barracks with Israeli flags raised over them.
The Prisoners' Club explained that the campaign in Hebron coincided "with the raiding of homes and the vandalism of their contents, severe beatings of detainees, as well as practices of abuse and threats, forcing citizens to leave specific areas, and turning homes into field investigation centers."
According to the Prisoners' Club, the arrest, raid, and field investigation campaigns witnessed in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and especially the recent developments in Hebron Governorate, "come in the context of a policy that has been continuous since the start of the genocide (in Gaza on October 8, 2023), which has not stopped with the passage of time or changes in field events, but has continued with its tools and forms multiplying."
The Club explained that arrest is no longer limited to direct detention, but overlaps with field investigations, the re-arrest of released prisoners, and the targeting of their families, in a broader context of pursuit and pressure on Palestinian society.
It stressed that what is happening today cannot be treated as an isolated event or an emergency escalation, "but rather an extension of an ongoing path during which the circle of targeting has widened and patterns of arrest, detention, and violations have been repeated."
It revealed that since the start of the genocide in Gaza, the number of arrests in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, has reached about 26,000, in addition to thousands of arrests in the Gaza Strip, and tens of thousands who have been subjected to field investigations and detention for varying periods.
On Saturday evening, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz admitted that about 2,000 Palestinians had been forcibly displaced from their homes in Hebron, saying that they would not be able to return before the dismantling of what he described as the "Hamas infrastructure" in the city, according to his expression.
This comes in conjunction with an escalation in Israeli army attacks and settler terrorism against Palestinians in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, since the start of the Israeli genocide war in Gaza in October 2023.
These attacks, in addition to the detainees, have resulted in the killing of more than 1,220 Palestinians and the injury of 13,350 others, according to official Palestinian data.
