Overnight and until Thursday morning, Israeli occupation forces carried out a campaign of arrests and field interrogations involving about 95 Palestinians in several areas and towns in the West Bank, with field interrogations accounting for the largest number of cases.
The arrests and field interrogations were concentrated in the town of Aqaba in Tubas Governorate, the town of Madama in Nablus Governorate, and the city of Yatta south of Hebron, in addition to areas in Jenin, Bethlehem, and Al-Bireh.
In the city of Qalqilya, the occupation forces launched a wide-scale arrest campaign targeting former prisoners, families of prisoners, and former prisoners, including the mother of a former prisoner and the wife of a prisoner. They also raided dozens of homes, including the home of the head of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, Moayad Shaaban.
The Prisoners' Club stated that the raids, arrests, and field interrogations were accompanied by the vandalism and destruction of home contents and assaults on Palestinians, amidst a continuous escalation in the use of force and violence against Palestinians.
It added that this campaign comes in the context of an ongoing escalation, coinciding with the rise in settler attacks on Palestinian towns and villages and the olive harvest season, which is witnessing repeated assaults on Palestinians, their lands, and their property, alongside the continued seizure of land and expansion of settlements.
The Prisoners' Club emphasized that mass arrests and field interrogations constitute one of the tools of the control system imposed by the occupation on the Palestinian people, alongside raids, abuse, home demolitions, and assaults on Palestinians and their property, noting that these policies have seen an unprecedented escalation since the start of the war of extermination in the Gaza Strip.
It explained that the arrest and field interrogation operations in the West Bank coincide with the escalation of settlement activity and settler attacks, reflecting the complementary roles of the occupation army, its agencies, and settlers in imposing further control over the land and the population.
More than 26,000 arrests since the start of the war of extermination
The Prisoners' Club indicated that the toll of arrests in the West Bank has exceeded 26,000 since the start of the war of extermination in the Gaza Strip, in addition to thousands of arrests carried out by the occupation in the Strip.
In this context, the occupation announced on Wednesday that it had carried out 46,000 arrests and interrogations of Palestinians in the West Bank since the start of the war of extermination.
The Prisoners' Club warned that the continuation of these crimes in the absence of international accountability encourages the occupation to continue using arrests, field interrogations, and other tools of repression and control.
It renewed its call for the international community and human rights organizations to assume their responsibilities and work to hold the occupation accountable for the ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people, including mass arrests, field interrogations, torture, killing, and settlement activity.
