The University of Jordan laid the foundation stone on Sunday for the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (IQ), in a move aimed at developing the university education system, improving the quality of teaching and learning, and fostering innovation and the use of technology in the educational process.
University President Nathir Obeidat emphasized in his speech during the ceremony that laying the foundation stone for the center does not merely represent the launch of a new construction project, but constitutes an additional step in building trust in science and humanity, and consolidating the university's role in shaping the future, noting that the value of true giving lies in its lasting impact and the goodness, knowledge, and opportunities it leaves for future generations.
Obeidat began his speech by invoking the Quranic verse: "And We record what they have put forth and what they left behind," affirming that the University of Jordan will remain a space where loyalty meets achievement, knowledge meets humanity, and belonging meets responsibility, and that what is built there today will remain a witness to its students' belief in its mission and role in serving the nation.
He pointed out that the University of Jordan's choice of this project reflects its scientific standing and national mission, noting that the center will form a qualitative addition to its educational environment, with its specialized facilities and spaces for interactive learning, training, and creativity, and by enhancing its ability to develop teaching and assessment methods and measure learning outcomes.
He added that the university seeks for the center to be an open space for science and creativity, bringing together students from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and providing them with broader opportunities to acquire knowledge and develop their skills, emphasizing that the University of Jordan is not just a place for learning, but an institution that contributes to building the human being, transforming knowledge into action, success into responsibility, and belonging into a sustainable impact.
Investor Issam Qaba'in emphasized that supporting Jordan and strengthening its national economy requires the development of fruitful and sustainable projects that contribute to serving the nation and continuing the development process.
Qaba'in pointed out that investing in education represents a foundation for preparing future generations, drawing attention to the importance of establishing the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, with the advanced educational facilities and qualified teaching staff it provides, and the opportunities it offers to enhance the quality of education and develop students' skills and capabilities, which will positively reflect on their future and contribute to supporting the national economy.
The Center for Excellence is being built within the University of Jordan campus on an area of 8,000 square meters, according to a construction plan spanning 18 months, to include advanced educational facilities equipped with modern technologies supporting teaching, learning, and digital production. It also includes a modern auditorium for events and conferences with a capacity of 400 seats.

Center Director Raed Al-Tahar emphasized that the center comes to consolidate the approach of excellence at the University of Jordan, unify efforts and expertise aimed at developing the educational process, improve teaching and assessment methods, and enhance the use of technology in education, contributing to providing an educational environment that responds to the needs of students and the renewed requirements of higher education.
He noted that developing education requires attention to the student experience, empowering faculty members to develop their teaching practices and exchange expertise, in addition to employing digital tools and educational innovation in improving the quality of learning and its outcomes, emphasizing the importance of relying on assessment and continuous improvement methods to measure the impact of development on student performance.
The center is expected to form a qualitative addition to the educational infrastructure at the university by providing specialized facilities that include advanced computer labs, Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) halls for medical students, specialized spaces for interactive training and holding workshops, in addition to a studio for digitizing courses and producing educational content.
The establishment of the center comes as an extension of the University of Jordan's efforts to modernize its educational environment and develop its infrastructure, and to strengthen its position in the field of higher education by investing in educational innovation and developing the capabilities of faculty members, in a way that keeps pace with rapid developments in teaching and learning methods, and confirms the university's role in preparing competencies capable of contributing to the national development process.
