The Ukrainian Security Service announced on Monday the death of 24 people and injury of five others, according to preliminary figures, following Russian airstrikes on the village of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region in central Ukraine.
The agency said in a statement posted on its Telegram app account that among the dead were two of its employees and four police officers.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the village was hit by multiple air raids, one of which targeted a school building where humanitarian aid was being distributed.
He added on Telegram: "Humanitarian aid was being distributed to those present there. After the first strike, a second attack followed, dropping nine more bombs, also targeting the shelter where people had taken refuge."
Zelenskyy noted that search and rescue operations have begun at the attack site.
He stressed that Russia does not want de-escalation, emphasizing Ukraine's need for further international support. No immediate comment from Moscow.
Since February 24, 2022, Russia has launched a military offensive against Ukraine, demanding that Kyiv abandon joining Western military blocs—a condition Kyiv considers interference in its internal affairs.
