Uber allocates $50 million to support Jordan's economic and tourism ambitions

Uber announced its commitment to invest $50 million over the next three years in Jordan's transportation system, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the Kingdom and supporting national priorities related to economic opportunities, tourism, and reliable transportation. This announcement follows meetings held by Uber's leadership with key government entities to discuss ways to enhance the partnership and expand digital transportation solutions.

This investment focuses on expanding income opportunities, supporting the digital transformation of taxi services, and increasing access to transportation services in various governorates outside major cities, alongside supporting the tourism sector in Jordan.

Ashish Labroo, Uber's Regional General Manager for the Middle East, said, "Jordan has a unique opportunity to leverage technology to open new horizons and enhance access opportunities across the country. As tourism continues to play a pivotal role in Jordan's economy, we see transportation as a fundamental part of the visitor experience - helping individuals explore more of the Kingdom, while simultaneously providing new opportunities for local communities."

In this context, the Jordanian Ministry of Investment stated, "The Ministry of Investment welcomes the expansion of Uber's investments in Jordan, reflecting the company's confidence in the Kingdom's investment environment and Jordan's ability to support business growth and expansion and reach regional markets. This expansion contributes to developing the urban transportation system, enhancing innovation and competition, providing opportunities for increased income, accelerating digital transformation in the transportation sector, and improving the quality of services provided to citizens, residents, and visitors."

Expanding income opportunities and supporting the digital transformation of taxi services

At the heart of this investment are the people who drive and benefit from Jordan's transportation system - from partner drivers and taxi drivers seeking flexible income opportunities, to communities seeking reliable transportation to workplaces and services, and visitors eager to explore more of what the Kingdom has to offer.

This investment will enhance opportunities for current drivers, while creating new and flexible ways to enable more individuals across Jordan to participate in the digital economy. For partner drivers and taxi drivers using the Uber platform, technology and flexible business models provide an important source of income, while also giving them greater control over their working hours and methods.

Supporting Jordan's tourism ambitions

Tourism is a key pillar of economic development in Jordan, and reliable transportation plays a crucial role in the visitor experience.

Uber will invest to help visitors move smoothly and reliably throughout the Kingdom - from the moment they arrive at airports and other entry points, to hotels, tourist attractions, restaurants, and various destinations in Jordan.

By facilitating visitor transportation, Uber aims to introduce tourists to everything Jordan has to offer, and support the country's ambition to become a leading global tourism destination.

Expanding access to transportation services

The investment will also support efforts to increase access to reliable transportation in governorates outside Jordan's major cities. Connecting more communities and destinations helps individuals reach their workplaces, services, and opportunities, while making it easier for visitors to explore different regions of the Kingdom.

Uber aims to contribute to building a stronger and more accessible transportation system across Jordan through continuous investment in its app and the transportation solutions it provides.
