"Union for Trains": Aqaba - Shidiya - Ma'an Railway Project: A New Economic Lifeline for Jordan

The Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordanian-Emirati Train Company and the CEO of Union for Trains, Shadi Malek, said that the Aqaba - Shidiya – Ma'an railway project is not just a railway line, but a new economic lifeline that connects Jordan's resources and production centers to the port of Aqaba and global markets.

Malek added that the project enhances the competitiveness of Jordan's exports, opens new horizons for investment and job opportunities, and consolidates Aqaba's status as a strategic gateway for trade and growth.

His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi, witnessed on Monday the laying of the foundation stone for the Aqaba - Shidiya – Ma'an railway project, one of the most prominent railway transport projects in Jordan.

The project aims to improve the efficiency of transporting mining products and reduce transportation costs, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Jordanian exports and consolidating the status of the Port of Aqaba as a regional hub for transportation and logistics services.

The project is expected to transport approximately 13 million tons of phosphate annually from Shidiya to Aqaba in its first phase, achieving integration with the Ma'an Land Port project by enabling the efficient transportation of various goods between Aqaba and Ma'an.

The project is a key part of a broader plan to establish a national railway network project and is one of the most prominent projects of the Economic Modernization Vision.

The Jordanian-Emirati Train Company is responsible for the construction and implementation of the project, which is the result of a partnership between a group of Jordanian and Emirati companies and institutions.
