The Chairman of the Jordan-UAE Railway Company, Mohammad Dhneibat, said on Monday that the Aqaba-Shudaydah-Ma'an railway project is of great importance to Jordan, Aqaba, and the Phosphate Company, and will connect Aqaba to global ports in the future.
Dhneibat added that the project, valued at $2.5 billion, will introduce the culture of using trains in Jordan, not only for transporting minerals and materials, but also for passenger transport in the future.
He explained that the Jordan-UAE Railway Company represents an important partnership for Jordan and is the entity responsible for the Aqaba-Shudaydah-Ma'an railway project.
Dhneibat pointed out that the project supports the environmental aspect, reduces costs, and is environmentally friendly.
He indicated that the project's capacity is 16 million tons per year, while the Phosphate Company will start transporting 13 million tons per year.
He said the project represents a confident future vision for a comprehensive economic, investment, and logistical renaissance, and embodies the depth of historical relations between Jordan and the UAE.
He highlighted the strategic developmental role of the project, particularly through enhancing the efficiency of the transport sector, reducing operational costs, and developing new investment opportunities that promote economic growth and provide job opportunities for Jordanians.
King Abdullah II and Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi, witnessed on Monday the laying of the foundation stone for the Aqaba-Shudaydah-Ma'an railway project, one of the most prominent railway transport projects in Jordan.
The project aims to enhance the efficiency of transporting mining products and reduce transportation costs, thereby boosting the competitiveness of Jordanian exports and establishing Aqaba Port as a regional hub for transport and logistics services.
The project is expected to transport approximately 13 million tons of phosphate annually from Shudaydah to Aqaba in its first phase, achieving integration with the Ma'an Land Port project by enabling the efficient transport of various goods between Aqaba and Ma'an.
The project is a key part of a broader plan to establish a national railway network and is one of the most prominent projects of the Economic Modernization Vision.
The Jordan-UAE Railway Company is responsible for constructing and implementing the project, which is the result of a partnership between a group of Jordanian and UAE companies and institutions.
