The train is economically feasible if implemented by the private sector, but it will be subsidized by the treasury to stabilize passenger transport tariffs, and it may also serve to transport goods, especially those distributed or brought from the airport.
We hope that such a project will see the light of day, and that it will not be hindered by any obstacles.
I have no idea about the cost, but a major project like this undoubtedly costs a lot, because building trains and their tracks is expensive.
I would add to that, as I had hoped that the passenger transport project between governorates would rely on light and fast trains, but that is very expensive and requires huge spending, and we hope that favorable conditions will be available to implement this ambitious project.
Now that advanced stages of the inter-governorate transport project using buses have been implemented, some via special lanes, this is an achievement.
Why do we say that? Simply, if such faster, safer, more comfortable, and time-saving transport is available, it means saving the citizen's effort and expenses, but it also, and most importantly, means that large numbers of citizens will not have to change their places of residence for work reasons, and it is known that this entails additional expenses that many families may not be able to meet.
The Land Transport Regulatory Commission in Jordan announced the start of the trial operation for the second phase of the regular public transport development project between governorates, which includes the operation of 372 buses operating on a schedule with electronic payment and tracking systems, to connect Amman and other governorates with safe and regular transport services.
There are 3 services from which the government cannot completely withdraw in terms of investment, spending, and operation: education, health, and transport, and some add mail. Therefore, it subsidizes public passenger transport.
