US President Donald Trump threatened on Wednesday to reduce trade with the European Union if it proceeds with a proposal to grant Canada the status of the first "partner member" in the bloc.
Trump told journalists commenting on the plan revealed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, "It is ridiculous," adding, "If they proceed, and if I see any hostile action, I will impose very strict customs duties or stop trade with Europe."
