US President Donald Trump launched a sharp attack on French President Emmanuel Macron, confirming that he had warned him years ago about the repercussions of immigration policies, and told him of the need to close the borders so that France would not lose control of its future.
In a lengthy post on his official account on the "Truth Social" platform, Trump said that France is facing, as he described it, a dangerous deterioration due to uncontrolled immigration, accusing European politicians of allowing large numbers of immigrants to enter without considering the repercussions of this on their societies.
He added: "As I told President Macron when I first met him many years ago, close your borders or it will be the end of France."
The US President considered that France, which he described as having been a great nation, is facing challenges that threaten its identity and culture, blaming immigration policies for what he described as the decline of conditions there.
Warning to Europe
Trump called on European countries to close their borders and tighten immigration procedures, demanding the removal of people he described as not respecting the countries in which they reside.
He accused leftist politicians in Europe of adopting policies that allowed the entry of millions of immigrants, considering that these policies threaten Western values.
He spoke of acts of violence and fires in France, using these developments to warn of the repercussions of continuing the current European approach.
Losing direction
In a message to European allies, Trump said that the United States stands with Europe despite what he described as its weaknesses and loss of the right direction.
But he added: "If it does not find its way soon, we will have no choice but to leave."
Trump did not specify the nature of the steps that Washington might take, or whether he meant reducing its security commitments toward Europe.
Criticism of NATO over Iran
In a related context, the US President renewed his criticism of NATO countries, accusing them of not providing assistance when Washington requested it during the war with Iran.
Trump said that the United States has spent hundreds of billions of dollars to protect the alliance's countries, but did not receive the help it requested.
He explained in his post that the request for help regarding Iran did not stem from an actual military need, but rather came, as he put it, in the context of testing the allies' position.
He added: "When we asked for help regarding Iran, they were not there to help us," confirming that he would not forget this stance.
