Three works share the Yousef Bakkar Award for Comparative Studies

The Jordanian Writers Association announced the results of the fourth edition of the "Yousef Bakkar Award for Eastern Comparative Studies: Arabic, Persian, and Turkish Languages and Literatures," which was awarded equally to three critical works in recognition of what the jury and the Board of Trustees deemed to be parity in originality, depth of analysis, and contribution to enriching the field of comparative literature.

The award was won by Dr. Rashid Issa for his book "The Universality of Intertextuality in Comparative Literature: Arabic and Persian Poetry as a Model," Dr. Seyed Ibrahim Armen for his book "Autobiography in Arabic and Persian Literature," and Dr. Fadila Al-Ali for her book "The Utopia of the City in the Poetry of Badr Shakir al-Sayyab and Sohrab Sepehri."

The winning works addressed, respectively, intertextuality and shared intellectual structures between Arabic and Persian poetry, human commonalities in rural narrative through the experiences of Taha Hussein and Mohammad Ali Eslami Nodoushan, as well as the duality of place and features of the city in free Arabic and Persian poetry through the experiences of Badr Shakir al-Sayyab and Sohrab Sepehri.

The award is an extension of the academic career of Professor Dr. Yousef Bakkar, who is considered one of the most prominent Arab specialists in comparative literature, particularly in Khayyam studies, as his works contributed to the study of Omar Khayyam's quatrains, their translations, and their connections to the Arab poetic consciousness.

The award, which is considered one of the specialized initiatives in Eastern comparative studies, aims to encourage researchers to study literary connections between languages and cultures, highlight aspects of influence and interaction between Arabic, Persian, and Turkish literatures, and benefit from the civilizational and cultural commonalities between them.

The value of the award is three thousand dollars per edition, covered by its founder, Professor Dr. Yousef Bakkar.

The association is scheduled to announce later the date of the honoring ceremony for the winners at its branch in the city of Irbid, while preparations for the fifth edition will begin, with an official announcement to be made on the first of next March and the opening of nominations on the fifteenth of the same month until the end of June.
