The National Center for Human Rights organizes a solidarity vigil for the martyrs of the Karak terrorist incident

Members of the Board of Trustees of the National Center for Human Rights and its staff organized a solidarity vigil on Sunday at the Center's headquarters, expressing their strong condemnation and denunciation of the terrorist attack that took place in Karak Governorate, and in solidarity with the martyrs, their families, and the people of the governorate.

The Chairperson of the Center's Board of Trustees, Samar Al-Haj Hassan, said: "We stand today as one rank with the families of the martyrs and the dear people of Karak, and we condemn in the strongest terms this terrorist act that attacked the right to life, which is the first and most fundamental of rights. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs, ask God for a speedy recovery for the injured, and affirm that Jordan, through the unity of its people and the cohesion of its institutions, will remain resilient against anyone who attempts to undermine its security and stability."

For his part, the Commissioner-General for Human Rights, Jamal Al-Shamayleh, said: "Terrorism is a crime against all of humanity and a grave violation of human rights, foremost among them the right to life and personal security. From our position as a national human rights institution, we affirm that protecting society from terrorism and confronting it must be within the framework of the rule of law and respect for rights and freedoms."

Members of the Board of Trustees affirmed during the vigil that terrorism, in all its forms and justifications, contradicts human values and the fundamental principles of human rights, stressing that confronting it requires strengthening national unity and consolidating the values of coexistence, brotherhood, and solidarity among the members of Jordanian society.

They affirmed their support for the Jordanian state, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein, and their categorical rejection of any attempt to undermine the security and stability of the nation or harm its national unity.

This vigil comes as an affirmation of the National Center for Human Rights' commitment to defending the right to life and human dignity, promoting the principles of the rule of law and respect for rights and freedoms, and consolidating the values of solidarity and national unity in the face of violence and terrorism.
