The European Union extends the period of the Rafah Crossing Mission and Palestinian Police Support Mission

The European Union has decided to extend the period of the border assistance mission at the Rafah Crossing in the Gaza Strip, and the police support mission in the Palestinian territories until June 30, 2027.

The European Council stated in a statement on Monday that the missions' operational period has been extended by 9 months, noting that the decision follows a technical extension decision of 3 months approved on June 29.

It added that the decision was made in coordination with the Palestinian National Authority and Israel.

The European Union had extended on June 26, 2025, the operational period of its two international missions for one year.

Since Israel's occupation of the Rafah Crossing in May 2024, the two missions have been unable to deploy their personnel and have remained in the region awaiting developments before resuming their work again on February 2 last.

On February 2, Israel reopened the Palestinian side of the Rafah Crossing in a very limited manner and with very strict restrictions.
