The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration, Engineer Walid Al-Masri, emphasized the necessity of raising the readiness of municipalities and preparing early and integrated plans to face the upcoming winter season, stressing the need to take all preventive measures and direct coordination with administrative governors and relevant authorities.
Al-Masri's statements came on the sidelines of the launch of the 'Smart Signal' project in Irbid Greater Municipality, where he pointed out that the upcoming rainy season may witness exceptional weather phenomena similar to what the Kingdom experienced in 2015, in terms of heavy and intense rainfall over short periods of time, which requires high and exceptional efforts from municipal cadres.
Al-Masri called for the implementation of precautionary field measures in hotspots, primarily the placement of barriers and sandbags to limit the rise in water levels and their flow towards residential areas and public facilities.
The minister also stressed the need for close coordination with administrative governors to relocate residents of wadis and areas exposed to the risk of water incursion, to protect their lives and properties and avoid any risks that may result from heavy rainfall.
