Syrian Air announced on Monday its goal to expand its flight network to 25 destinations and double its fleet from 6 to 12 aircraft by the end of 2026, coinciding with the launch of its new visual identity.
This was announced during an event held at Damascus International Airport, where the company, in cooperation with the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport, launched its new vision and updated visual identity, according to the Syrian News Agency "SANA".
During the event, Syrian Air announced the entry of the first aircraft with the new visual identity into service.
- Expanding the network of destinations
The CEO of the Syrian Holding Company for Aviation, Anwar Akkad, said that the company started this year with 9 stations, before adding new destinations during the past period, including Amsterdam, Vienna, Copenhagen, and Moscow.
He added: "We will soon announce more stations, and our goal is to reach 25 stations before the end of this year," explaining that this represents an increase of about 120 percent compared to the beginning of the year.
Regarding the fleet, Akkad explained that the company currently operates 6 aircraft, saying: "We will double this number by the end of the year," which means targeting to reach 12 aircraft by the end of 2026.
On August 29 last year, Syrian Air received the first two of eight aircraft from the "Airbus A320" family, as part of a program to update its fleet, while one of them was directed to a specialized center to implement painting works and apply the new visual identity.
Over the past months, the company expanded its network of external destinations, resuming flights to Moscow and opening lines to Amsterdam, Vienna, and Copenhagen, as part of a plan to reconnect Damascus with a larger number of European and international cities.
In the digital transformation path, Akkad said that the company has started developing booking and payment platforms and electronic services, alongside mobile applications, self-services, and digital solutions.
He added that the company launched its new website and that it will adopt "a new booking system with global specifications starting next month".
He pointed to the development of the automation system and the adoption of email for internal correspondence, and working to expand its use in dealing with government agencies to save time and effort and reduce paper transactions.
On September 21 last year, the Syrian Holding Company for Aviation signed an agreement to implement the "QMSmart" system, aiming to develop safety and quality management systems and enhance digital transformation, including monitoring, auditing, and risk management.
- Building a modern aviation sector
For his part, the President of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport, Omar Al-Hajri, said that the authorities, with the direction and support of President Ahmed Al-Shar'a, are working on "building a modern aviation sector that reflects the aspirations of the Syrian state," and re-establishing Syria's presence in airports and international aviation networks.
He pointed out that Syrian Air has gone through difficult circumstances over the past years, during which its fleet declined, its destinations decreased, and its services were affected.
He added: "An image has been established about it that does not befit its history or the name of Syria it carries, and we refuse for that image to be its future."
Hajri considered the new identity "not just a logo or colors," but a commitment that the change in the image "is accompanied by a real change in performance."
He said: "The real identity is not made by the paint on the aircraft, but by what the traveler sees and feels."
He explained that the authority is working on developing airports, updating air navigation systems, reorganizing airspace, and opening air routes, in addition to restoring the link with the world and opening the sector to investment and partnerships.
On November 24, 2025, the authority signed final contracts with an international alliance led by "Orbacon Holding" to develop, expand, and operate Damascus International Airport at a value of $4 billion, and the project includes $250 million in funding to purchase aircraft and support the national carrier's fleet.
