Iranian Army: Fire on an oil tanker after it struck mines in the Strait of Hormuz

An oil tanker caught fire after striking mines in the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian army reported on Tuesday.

The official "IRNA" news agency quoted a statement from the army as saying, "(..) An oil tanker, which had disabled its tracking systems while attempting to cross a restricted and dangerous area in the eastern Strait of Hormuz, struck mines, resulting in damage and a fire."

Iran has restricted navigation in this vital strait for global energy supplies since the start of the war in the Middle East with American-Israeli strikes on it on February 28.

In response, Washington imposed a blockade on Iran's ports.

Navigation in the strait and its control have become one of the main points of contention between Tehran and Washington.

Since the beginning of the war, Iran has repeatedly targeted ships that attempted to cross the Strait of Hormuz without obtaining its permission.
