Starting the cultivation of 200 'land scraps' in Amman to increase green areas

The Ministry of Environment and the Amman Greater Municipality have started coordinating to implement a project to plant 200 'land scraps' within the capital's areas, with trees and plants to contribute to increasing the green area and improving the urban and environmental landscape in Amman.

The project comes within the framework of enhancing cooperation between the two sides, and supporting national efforts aimed at raising the quality of life in cities, increasing green areas, improving the aesthetics of public spaces, reducing the effects of heat islands, and enhancing the ability of the urban environment to adapt to climate change.

According to the memorandum of understanding and coordination between the two sides, work will be done to identify suitable sites and scraps for planting according to priorities and technical and environmental considerations, and coordination in selecting trees, shrubs, and plant species suitable for local climatic conditions, while taking into account the efficient use of water, and exchanging technical expertise and related information.

The cooperation includes monitoring initiatives and projects implemented jointly, and measuring their environmental impact, which enhances the benefit from available spaces within the capital and turning them into green elements that contribute to improving the urban landscape and enhancing environmental sustainability.

Both sides confirmed that this cooperation embodies the complementarity of roles between national institutions in implementing government orientations related to increasing green areas, improving the urban environment, and enhancing partnership in serving Amman and raising the level of quality of life in it.

This step comes within the efforts of both sides to expand the scope of afforestation and increase green areas in the capital, and invest available sites in a sustainable manner, in a way that achieves a tangible environmental and urban impact in the long term.
