Amman Municipality Works to Improve Sidewalks and Provide Safe Paths for Pedestrians

The Greater Amman Municipality confirmed that the work to improve sidewalks in several areas of the capital aims to provide safe and connected spaces for pedestrians, in parallel with protecting the green cover and relocating trees that cannot be kept in their locations and replanting them in more suitable sites.

The Municipality explained that the work is limited to trees that obstruct the movement of pedestrians on narrow sidewalks, after technical inspection and evaluation of each site, noting that the sidewalk is a right for pedestrians, especially children, the elderly, and people with disabilities, to move safely within their neighborhoods.

It pointed out that it has preserved a large number of trees by pruning branches that obstruct pedestrian movement or pose a danger to public safety, and that the relocation of trees is only done in cases where pruning or technical treatment is not possible, ensuring the safety of pedestrians and the fluidity of movement on the sidewalk.

It added that trees suitable for replanting are transferred according to the rules to planting containers and nurseries, in preparation for replanting them in gardens and sites where the space and conditions suitable for their growth are available, while the trees suitable for the width of the sidewalk and do not obstruct movement remain in their places.

In this context, the Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry in the Amman Municipality continues to plant between 120,000-130,000 saplings annually, within its plan to increase the green area in the capital in a thoughtful urban manner, taking into account the suitability of the planted species for different sites and the needs of movement, safety, and services.

It pointed out that these works combine improving the urban environment, protecting the green cover, and contribute to making the neighborhoods of the capital more walkable and improving the quality of life in them.

The Municipality documented through photos and video clips the stages of relocating trees suitable for replanting, preparing them in nurseries, and replanting them in alternative sites, along with sidewalk rehabilitation work.
