Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said that the principles and aspirations of the United Nations are being ignored and undermined by governments and political entities, warning that peace, sustainability, and equal opportunities face threats that push the world towards a 'dark past'.
Sánchez called for the reform of the UN Security Council and the strengthening of multilateral institutions, emphasizing the need to support bodies such as the International Criminal Court to prosecute and punish lawbreakers.
Sánchez accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of continuing to 'commit a mass massacre in Gaza', criticizing what he described as the start of 'illegal wars' and the perpetration of massacres against civilians.
He added that entities that describe the United Nations and multilateral organizations as ineffective adopt, in his words, positions based on'selfishness, ignorance, and cruelty'.
