Solidarity vigil in Aqaba in front of the Greek Orthodox Church

Church bells rang this Saturday evening in the city of Aqaba for a minute of mourning for the victims of the attack on the Hamoud Church in Karak Governorate, at a time when partisan and popular activities, civil society institutions, unions, and professional bodies, with the participation of Muslim and Christian clerics and a number of Aqaba Governorate residents, held a solidarity vigil in front of the Greek Orthodox Church, expressing their strong condemnation of the cowardly terrorist act.

The participants affirmed their solidarity with the people of Hamoud village and the families of the martyrs and the injured, and their standing by their people in Karak, stressing that the attack on houses of worship represents a violation of religious and human values, and that such criminal acts will not undermine the unity and cohesion of Jordanians.

Representatives of Muslim and Christian clergy expressed their categorical rejection of these criminal acts that are devoid of human and moral values, confirming that this grave affliction is the affliction of every Jordanian home without exception, and that what affects the sons of the nation in any governorate affects all Jordanians.

They added that the brotherly relations that bring Jordanians together extend through history and time, and form a model of coexistence, fraternity, and national cohesion, stressing the importance of preserving these ties and promoting the values of love, tolerance, and mutual respect among the various components of society.

They stressed that all governorates of the Kingdom are united by one homeland and a common destiny, and that such terrorist acts will not succeed in undermining the unity and cohesion of Jordanians, affirming their standing as one rank behind the Hashemite leadership, rallying around it, and their keenness to protect Jordan's security and stability and preserve its national unity.

The vigil included a minute of silence and prayers for the souls of the martyrs, and prayers for the injured for a speedy recovery, asking God to protect Jordan and its people, and to perpetuate the blessing of security, stability, and love among its people in the Kingdom.

The participants raised Jordanian flags and chanted slogans that affirmed national unity and solidarity among members of society, stressing that Jordan will remain a model for fraternity and coexistence, and that protecting the national fabric is a shared responsibility that requires promoting the values of love, tolerance, and mutual respect.
