Anti-beggary committees at the Ministry of Social Development, in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate, apprehended a female beggar in possession of 3,313 dinars, which she collected from practicing begging in the capital, Amman.
The ministry stated in a press release on Monday that, after checking the beggar's records, it was found that she has 18 criminal records registered against her, including 13 records related to begging, noting that legal procedures were taken against her and she was transferred to the competent authorities.
The ministry called on citizens not to provide aid and charity to beggars to prevent the continuation of begging and related practices, particularly the exploitation and use of children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities in begging activities.
It emphasized the importance of directing aid and donations to licensed charitable associations and entities authorized to collect donations, ensuring they reach the needy and deserving groups.
The ministry stressed that combating begging is a shared responsibility that requires citizens' cooperation with the concerned authorities, pointing out that it receives all observations and complaints via the hotline (0793344330) around the clock across various governorates of the kingdom.
The ministry affirmed that its staff, in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate, will continue to carry out campaigns to apprehend beggars and handle cases in accordance with the provisions of applicable legislation and established legal procedures, noting that these measures come within ongoing efforts to combat begging and enhance the handling of cases within legal frameworks, which contributes to protecting society and curbing beggars' exploitation of citizens' sympathy by feigning poverty or need to obtain money illegally.
