Mafraq: 254 anti-begging campaigns since the beginning of the year

The Ministry of Social Development revealed that 254 anti-begging campaigns have been carried out in Mafraq Governorate since the beginning of the current year, resulting in the apprehension of 366 beggars, including 180 adults and 186 juveniles, as part of efforts aimed at curbing this phenomenon and strengthening the social protection system.

In its response to inquiries from (Alrai), the Ministry confirmed the continuation of anti-begging campaigns in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate, by intensifying field efforts to monitor and apprehend cases, and dealing with them in accordance with applicable legislation and legal procedures, which contributes to limiting the spread of the phenomenon and curbing the exploitation of citizens' sympathy through claims of poverty or need to obtain money illegally.

The figures recorded in Mafraq Governorate reflect the importance of continuing regulatory and awareness-raising efforts, especially in light of the 186 cases recorded among juveniles, compared to 180 cases among adults, which highlights the importance of dealing with these cases according to approved legal and social frameworks, while taking into account the needs of groups most vulnerable to exploitation.

The Ministry stressed that combating begging is a shared responsibility between official authorities and the community, calling on citizens to cooperate with the competent authorities, report cases of begging, refrain from encouraging practices that contribute to the continuation of the phenomenon, and contribute to directing those in need to official assistance channels and entities concerned with providing social support.

It explained that citizens can submit reports, observations, and complaints related to begging via the hotline (0793344330), which operates around the clock in various governorates of the Kingdom, allowing for the response to and follow-up of cases by the competent authorities.

It emphasized the importance of integrating efforts between combating begging and strengthening social protection programs, in a way that contributes to addressing the social and economic needs of the most needy groups, limiting the exploitation of children and adults, improving the standard of living of citizens, and enhancing social stability.
