The Saudi-led military coalition supporting the internationally recognized government in Yemen announced on Saturday a wide-scale operation against the Iran-backed Houthis, while the Houthi-affiliated "Al-Masirah" channel reported attacks in northwestern Yemen.
Coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki said on X, "We are conducting a wide-scale operation targeting the elements and capabilities of the terrorist Houthi militia."
He added, "We have destroyed 136 military targets in areas controlled by the terrorist Houthi militia."
For its part, the Houthi-affiliated "Al-Masirah" channel reported "Saudi missile aggression" in Saada Governorate in northwestern Yemen.
These strikes come amid fierce battles taking place on the ground in several areas of Yemen for weeks, which have seen a new escalation since Sunday with the government forces announcing the start of a counter-offensive against the Houthis to reclaim areas they had recently seized. Saudi Arabia is participating in the operation, particularly by intensifying its airstrikes.
Six people were killed this week in raids claimed by the Houthis that targeted Saudi airports.
