Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian considered on Saturday that the Middle East does not need a "policeman," referring to the United States, which launched a war on Tehran alongside Israel in February.
During a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of a BRICS summit in New Delhi, Pezeshkian said, "We do not need a policeman for the region," adding that "the territorial integrity and security of the region can only be guaranteed by its main parties and the countries that comprise it."
According to the Iranian presidency website, Pezeshkian affirmed, "Despite all the injustices our people have been subjected to, we do not desire war nor its continuation," emphasizing that "peace remains our priority."
The war erupted when the United States and Israel launched a wave of strikes against Iran on February 28. Tehran responded by closing the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for global energy supplies and maritime trade, prompting Washington to impose a blockade on Iranian ports.
