It pointed to the increasing incidents of targeting children, the latest of which were Israeli attacks that resulted in the killing of 3 students in less than 24 hours.
According to the Palestinian "Al-Ray" agency (local), the victims are Tamer Shadi Sobh, who was killed by Israeli army gunfire, Mohammed Riad Abu Hammad, who was killed in an Israeli bombing while returning from school, and the child Misk Hazem Al-Dalu, who was killed by Israeli gunfire in Al-Maghazi camp in the central Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian ministry emphasized the necessity of providing urgent protection for children and ensuring they reach their schools and educational points safely, considering that endangering their lives deprives them of their basic rights.
The ministry called on the United Nations, UNICEF, and international human rights organizations to take urgent measures to protect students, document violations, and hold those responsible accountable.
It stressed that protecting Gaza's children is an international legal and humanitarian responsibility that requires concrete actions beyond statements of solidarity, ensuring their right to life, safety, and education.
This comes about a month after the resumption of the academic year in Gaza on September 19, following a 3-year interruption due to the Israeli genocide.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Education, the academic year targets about 541,000 male and female students across about 700 in-person educational sites, in addition to e-learning, despite the widespread destruction that has affected schools.
Since October 2023, Israel has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and injured over 175,000 during the genocide in Gaza, while the war has left widespread destruction affecting about 90 percent of the civilian infrastructure in the Strip.
