Pakistan Confirms 'Thoughtful' Strikes in Afghanistan, Killing 22 Militants

Pakistan announced on Thursday the execution of 'planned and thoughtful' airstrikes targeting camps and hideouts of armed groups in two locations within Afghanistan, stating that the strikes resulted, according to preliminary figures, in the death of 22 militants and the destruction of large quantities of weapons and ammunition.

The Pakistani Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said in a post on the 'X' platform that the strikes were carried out as part of Operation 'Ghazab lil Haq' (Wrath for Justice), based on'reliable intelligence', targeting sites affiliated with the 'Fitna al-Khawarij' and 'Fitna al-Hindistan' groups and their associated factions.

The ministry added that the operations were carried out 'precisely', and that preliminary reports indicate the death of 22 militants, as well as the destruction of large quantities of weapons and ammunition stored in the targeted sites.

Islamabad said the strikes came in the context of the counter-terrorism campaign being implemented by the security forces and law enforcement agencies under the 'Azim Istihkam' vision, affirming that the campaign will continue with the aim of eliminating what it described as 'foreign-backed terrorism'.

The ministry stated that Pakistan seeks to maintain peace and stability in the region, but considers the security of its citizens to be 'the utmost priority', and accused Afghanistan of still being a 'center of terrorism', saying that the threat facing Pakistan 'emanates from Afghanistan'.

It emphasized that the forces took 'utmost care' during the execution of the strikes to ensure no collateral damage, according to the Pakistani narrative.
