OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in remarks published yesterday, Saturday, that the company will not carry out its initial public offering (IPO) in 2026.
Altman attributed this to safety concerns, stating that even a 10 percent probability of artificial intelligence causing human extinction by the end of the decade is "unacceptable."
Altman made these remarks at a time when more US lawmakers are urging the establishment of new regulations for artificial intelligence systems, following stark warnings from two researchers at Anthropic, a competitor to OpenAI, that rapid progress in AI could lead to the extinction of the human race in the not-too-distant future.
