Obaideit: Government Incentives Established a Solid Industrial Base in 'Tafila Industrial City'

The Director General of the Jordan Industrial Estates Company, Adi Obaideit, confirmed that the unprecedented government incentives and facilities recently approved for Tafila Industrial City have created a fundamental turning point in the investment decision, and have directly contributed to redirecting the compass of local and regional investments towards the south of the Kingdom, particularly Tafila Governorate.

Obaideit explained in a press statement that the city has so far managed to attract 11 investment projects out of 28 companies interested in investing, with a total investment volume exceeding 56 million Jordanian Dinars.

He pointed out that these investments alone will provide more than 550 direct job opportunities for the province's residents, emphasizing that the ultimate goal of these efforts is to establish a solid industrial base in the southern region that lays the foundation for the post-incentives phase.

He noted that one of the factories in the city, which was visited by Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan, managed to provide more than 70 job opportunities for the province's residents, including some people with disabilities, achieving export volume of 5 million Dinars to various Arab markets, which proves the success of the government's vision in encouraging the business environment.

In detailing the package of benefits and incentives, Obaideit revealed that reducing energy costs had the greatest impact; the reduction in electricity prices reached 75% of the consumption cost, which is considered one of the lowest industrial energy costs globally.

He pointed out that the support package did not stop at energy costs, but extended to include the employment and logistics sector by providing government contributions to the costs of transporting workers to and from factories, paying part of the salaries of Jordanian workers, in addition to covering a percentage of the deductions subject to social security.

He stressed that this package is linked to a basic and direct condition, which is that all incentives and facilities are directed exclusively to factories that commit to providing job opportunities for Jordanian youth only, confirming the aspiration to adopt sustainable energy alternatives in the future to reduce operational costs in the long term.

He pointed out that the direction of investments was based on a comprehensive study of the competitive advantages of industrial zones conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Investment; this map resulted in directing projects towards Tafila Industrial City and King Hussein bin Abdullah II Industrial City in Karak.

He cited the success of this policy through the noticeable turnout of companies to expand; factories located in the north and central parts of the Kingdom have opened new branches in Tafila.

He explained that one of the companies producing photovoltaic panels and lighting, which has investments in the Al-Hassan Industrial City in Irbid and King Abdullah II Industrial City in Sabha, initiated the establishment of a new factory in Tafila Industrial City immediately after the incentives were approved, which proves the success of the attractive environment in the south.

Obaideit announced the launch of a cooperation and alignment program with Tafila Technical University and the Vocational Training Corporation to train Jordanian youth working in Tafila factories and provide them with the required technical skills, where the national workforce training stages will start in parallel with the construction stages of the factories from the first day to ensure the readiness of the Jordanian workforce to take over the site upon the actual opening and operation of these factories.
