Minister of Education and Human Resources Development Azmi Muhafazah called on students to actively participate in the student parliamentary council elections in public and private schools, scheduled to be held on the morning of Thursday, October 22, 2026, emphasizing the importance of these councils in enhancing leadership, responsibility, and positive participation among students.
Muhafazah stated that student parliamentary councils represent one of the educational tools that contribute to preparing a conscious generation capable of participating in building society and serving the nation, noting that the role of the school is not limited to education and acquiring knowledge, but also includes building character and developing the spirit of leadership, initiative, and responsibility.
In a message addressed to them, he called on students to participate in the elections by running as candidates or voting, and to exercise their right to choose those who will represent their peers and convey their issues, needs, and proposals in a spirit of responsibility and respect.
He emphasized the importance of competition between candidates being based on ideas, initiatives, and realistic programs, away from fanaticism and offending others, and that the selection of representatives should be based on their ability to shoulder responsibility, work in a team spirit, and listen to their peers.
Muhafazah explained that the purpose of establishing student parliamentary councils is not limited to undergoing an electoral experience, but also includes developing communication, planning, and situation management skills through dialogue, and strengthening national belonging and the values of tolerance, coexistence, and democracy.
He added that these councils allow students to express their opinions and proposals and contribute to preparing school development plans and implementing cultural, social, and health initiatives and activities, in addition to enhancing cooperation between the school and the local community.
He stressed that learning responsible choice, respectful dialogue, and participation in decision-making helps students acquire skills and values that will accompany them in their lives and future, calling for broad and conscious participation in the elections, and commitment to integrity, respect, and responsibility.
The elections are scheduled to begin on Thursday morning in public and private schools across the Kingdom, to elect a student parliamentary council in each school, comprising students representing their classes with two students from each class.
