Minster of Public Works inspects King Hussein Bridge road expansion project

Minister of Public Works and Housing, Eng. Maher Abu Al-Samen, inspected on Monday the work progress of the project to improve and expand the road leading to the King Hussein Bridge, reviewing the implementation stages and achievement rates, and directed the technical staff and the contractor to intensify work and accelerate the pace of implementation in order to complete it before the end of the current year.

During his tour, Abu Al-Samen emphasized the importance of accelerating work on the project while adhering to technical specifications, quality standards, and traffic safety, pointing out that it constitutes a priority given the importance of the bridge as one of the most prominent border crossings in Jordan and a vital artery for passenger traffic and cargo transport between Jordan and Palestine.

He stressed the need to maintain the pace of achievement and build upon it during the next phase by intensifying work, providing the necessary personnel and machinery, and investing the available time to complete the project, allowing the road to be put into service as soon as possible.

The completion rate of the project has reached about 40 percent, despite the passage of nearly a third of the contractual period of 300 days, which reflects progress in the workflow compared to the schedule and enhances the possibility of completing it before the end of its contractual period.

The project, which began on July 7th, includes improving and expanding the road extending from the current bridge location to the other side, with a length of approximately 4 kilometers, to become 4 lanes separated by a median island, at a total cost of approximately two million dinars.

The works include scraping existing asphalt layers, treating sags and cracks, executing new asphalt layers, cutting, filling and expansion works, establishing a median island equipped with solar-powered double-arm lighting poles, in addition to road markings and traffic safety elements, protecting water structures and improving rainwater drainage.

The project is expected to contribute to raising the level of traffic safety, improving the flow of passenger and freight traffic across the crossing, and increasing the road's capacity to keep pace with the expected growth in traffic movement, thereby enhancing the efficiency of transport and mobility services between Jordan and Palestine.
