Ministry of Public Works completes maintenance and construction of water facilities and addresses hotspots in Aqaba

According to the Ministry's statement, these works come within its efforts aimed at enhancing infrastructure efficiency, raising the readiness of roads and water facilities, and reducing the risks of rainwater and flash flood accumulation, especially in locations requiring proactive protection and treatment works.

The first phase of works included the construction and maintenance of water facilities and road protections in several locations within Wadi Araba, the entrance to Aqaba, and Aqaba city center, at a value of approximately 209,000 dinars, with an implementation period of 120 calendar days.

The Ministry also completed the second phase of maintenance and construction of water facilities and road protections, at a value of approximately 49,500 dinars, with an implementation period of 45 calendar days.

The second phase included carrying out unclassified excavation works behind the existing water barrier with a volume of approximately 10,000 cubic meters, in addition to maintaining the water barrier through backfilling and reinforced concrete works with a volume of approximately 400 cubic meters, as well as maintaining existing riprap works at one of the hotspots covering an area of approximately 300 square meters.

The Ministry emphasized that the implementation of these works falls within its plans to address sites most vulnerable to the effects of rainwater and flash floods, and to preserve the elements of the road network and water facilities, thereby enhancing public safety levels and maintaining the sustainability and efficiency of infrastructure in Aqaba Governorate.
