Ministry of Energy: Contractual Quantity for Supplying Lebanon with Gas is Estimated at About 2 Million m³ Daily

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that the daily contractual quantity for supplying the Lebanese Republic with natural gas is estimated at about 2 million cubic meters per day, noting that the supply of natural gas to Lebanon has not yet started.

The Ministry added that the determination of the daily quantities required of natural gas will be made after the Lebanese side confirms the schedules of the quantities expected to be requested from the Jordanian side, after the readiness of the infrastructure in Lebanon.

It pointed out that the Lebanese side is currently working on repairing and rehabilitating the gas networks within its territories.

The Ministry clarified that the supply of natural gas to Lebanon will be through the import of shipments of liquefied natural gas from global markets, and unloading them in the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in the port of Aqaba.

Regarding the supply of Syria, the Ministry said that the daily contractual quantity for supplying it with natural gas is estimated at about 4 million cubic meters, explaining that the supply of Syria is based on its daily needs.

The Ministry confirmed that the supply of Lebanon and Syria with natural gas at the same time will not affect the Kingdom's local needs or energy supply security.

It pointed out that the Kingdom has four sources of natural gas supply, including natural gas via pipelines from the Egyptian side and Chevron, natural gas produced locally from the Risha Gas Field, and liquefied natural gas from the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit, which is supplied through the Liquefied Natural Gas Port in Aqaba.

It said that the capacity of the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit is sufficient to cover the Kingdom's needs for natural gas and supply Syria and Lebanon with natural gas.

According to the Ministry, the strategy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources aims to enhance energy supply security by diversifying the sources of natural gas supply to the Kingdom and not relying on a single source, thereby ensuring the continuity of supply to electricity generation plants mainly and industrial sectors.

Regarding the role of the Jordanian-Lebanese agreement in enhancing Jordan's regional status, the Ministry said that the agreement contributes to consolidating Jordan's status as a pivotal regional center for energy exchange and transport, relying on the developed infrastructure that includes the Arab Gas Pipeline and the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit in Aqaba.

It added that this contributes to supporting Arab countries and supporting their stability and alleviating the living hardships of the peoples.
