"Mafraq Culture" prepares to include Burqu' in a cultural tourism trail

The Mafraq Directorate of Culture is preparing to include the Burqu' area in the Ruwaished District within a cultural tourism trail for the year 2027, with the aim of highlighting the region's wealth of archaeological landmarks, environmental assets, and heritage, and enhancing its presence on the cultural and environmental tourism map in Mafraq Governorate.

In this context, the Director of the Mafraq Directorate of Culture, Samer Al-Khaza'leh, accompanied by a team of directorate staff, visited the Burqu' Ecolodge and the archaeological Qasr Burqu' to examine the historical and natural value of the region and discuss ways to utilize these assets in cultural and tourism programs that contribute to promoting its civilizational and environmental heritage.

The delegation viewed the archaeological Qasr Burqu', which is considered one of the most prominent historical landmarks in the northeastern Badia. It is located near the Burqu' Dam and its water reservoir, and is distinguished by its architectural style built from black basalt stones, and the historical evidence it holds that reflects the succession of civilizations in the region, including the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods.

The visit also included the Burqu' Ecolodge, which serves as a station for receiving visitors wishing to explore the nature of the Eastern Badia and learn about its environmental and heritage uniqueness through accommodation and rest facilities, in addition to its proximity to the Burqu' Nature Reserve, which enhances opportunities to link ecotourism with cultural experiences associated with authentic Bedouin heritage.

This visit comes within the directives of the Mafraq Directorate of Culture to prepare a cultural tourism trail in the Burqu' area during 2027, based on linking archaeological and natural sites with local cultural heritage, and providing an opportunity for visitors to learn about the history of the region and its civilizational and environmental uniqueness.

It is expected that this trend will contribute to boosting tourism activity in the Ruwaished District, highlighting historical and natural sites in the Eastern Badia, in addition to supporting local cultural and development initiatives, and consolidating the position of Mafraq Governorate as being rich in heritage sites that deserve documentation, introduction, and tourism promotion.
