Madaba prepares for winter by upgrading water and sewage networks and the purification plant

The Madaba Water Administration is working on upgrading water and sewage networks and increasing the efficiency of the purification plant in preparation for the winter season, through various projects costing more than 4 million dinars during the current year, according to the Executive Assistant of Miyahuna Company, Engineer Mufid Al-Lawzi.

Al-Lawzi said that Miyahuna Company's projects focused on addressing hotspots in the governorate at a value of 450 thousand dinars, and constructing a basin to store treated water at the purification plant with a capacity of 50 thousand cubic meters to increase its capacity in the winter season to limit the overflow of treated water into Wadi Al-Habeis and Zarqa Ma'in Dam, at a value reaching about half a million dinars.

He added that sewage transmission lines were implemented in the governorate's regions at a value of 700 thousand dinars from the company's capital budget, while sewage systems in the Madaba camp were updated and maintained at a value of 350 thousand dinars funded by UNICEF and 100 thousand dinars from the Madaba Governorate Council budget.

He explained that this year's projects focused on replacing water lines in various areas of the Dhiban district at a value of 700 thousand dinars, and water lines were also replaced in Madaba Governorate at a value of half a million dinars, while an emergency water line tender was implemented in Madaba at a value of 50 thousand dinars from the company's capital budget. He pointed out that the projects to update water and sewage networks and improve and increase the efficiency of the purification plant will continue next year at a higher pace through the implementation of a project to update main and branch water lines at a value of 8 million dinars funded by the World Bank, the construction of a collection pond for treated water at the purification plant with a capacity of 50 thousand cubic meters, and the construction of household water collection wells at a cost reaching one million dinars funded by the FAO, while the expansion of the Madaba purification plant will begin next year at a value of 135 million dinars over 5 years, funded by the French Development Agency.

Al-Lawzi emphasized that sewage networks are intended for sewage only and not for rainwater drainage, explaining that opening sewage covers to drain rainwater in winter causes significant damage to them and increases pressure on the purification plant.

Regarding the water desalination plant for turbidity that affects the Hidan wells in the winter, Al-Lawzi indicated that it is being maintained and its readiness is being monitored, with the pumping rate from it reaching an average of 1650 cubic meters per hour, which covers the governorate's daily drinking water needs.

He pointed out that Miyahuna Company is working on diversifying water sources and not limiting them to the Wadi Hidan wells by renting two artesian wells in the Natel area and drilling two other wells in the same area to secure the governorate's water needs in the winter season.
