Lazio turns the tables on Cagliari and takes sole lead of the Italian League

Lazio overturned a deficit against its guest Cagliari to secure a valuable 2-1 victory on Sunday at the "Olimpico" stadium in Rome, as part of the tenth round of the Italian Football League, taking sole possession of the top spot in the standings.

The Italian capital team continued its strong performances by achieving its sixth consecutive victory and its ninth since the start of the season, raising its tally to 28 points in first place, benefiting from Inter Milan's 1-3 loss to its neighbor AC Milan on Saturday, to extend its lead over the defending champion to 3 points.

On the other hand, Cagliari failed to achieve any victory in its last 5 matches in the competition, as it drew one match and suffered 4 consecutive defeats, leaving its tally at 13 points and dropping to eleventh place.

The first minutes of the match witnessed mutual attacking attempts, as Gambian Alieu Fadera wasted an early opportunity for Cagliari with a shot that went past the post after the ball rebounded to him inside the penalty area, before Dane Gustav Isaksen responded with a shot that went over the crossbar.

Despite the attacking advantage for the hosts, Cagliari surprised its host by opening the scoring in the 21st minute through Angolan M'Bala Nzola, who capitalized on a cross from Fadera at the near post during a counterattack, scoring his second goal in two consecutive matches.

This was Lazio's first time trailing in the score since the third round, but it did not wait long to equalize, after Dutchman Tijjani Noslin set up the ball for his teammate Isaksen, who launched a powerful left-footed shot that nestled into the top right corner, scoring his fourth goal in the last five matches.

In the second half, the two teams exchanged attacking attempts in search of the lead goal, before Lazio succeeded in deciding the match in the 83rd minute, when Andrea Pinamonti rose for a cross sent by Spaniard Alfonso Pedraza and headed it into the net from close range, giving his team the winning goal and the three points.

In another match, Como continued its positive results after achieving its fourth consecutive victory in the competition, following its 1-0 win over its guest, bottom-placed Venezia.

The match's only goal came in the 43rd minute, from a penalty kick successfully executed by Frenchman Lucas Da Cunha, scoring his first goal this season, granting his team a new victory that solidified its position among the top teams.

Como raised its tally to 23 points in fourth place after achieving its seventh victory this season, remaining one point away from third-placed Roma and two points from runner-up Inter Milan.
