The "Sport for Sustainable Urban Development" project was launched in the Ghor Al-Safi area under the patronage of Princess Ayah bint Faisal, President of the Jordan Volleyball Federation. The project is a partnership between the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Jordan Olympic Committee, the Southern Jordan Valley Municipality, and the Zaha Cultural Center, with the aim of utilizing sport as a tool for development, improving the quality of life, and enhancing the sustainability of public spaces in the region.
The project embodies an ambitious developmental vision based on employing sport to serve the community through the development of public spaces and the improvement of the urban environment, alongside providing new opportunities for development and investment. This contributes to creating a more vibrant and inclusive environment, and opens horizons for the area's residents to harness athletic and youth energies into sustainable developmental pathways.
