Minister of Youth and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II Volunteering Award, Dr. Raed Sami Al-Adwan, announced yesterday, Monday, the launch of the fourth cycle of the Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II Volunteering Award and opened the door for nominations.
This came during a ceremony held today at Al-Hussein Youth City, attended by the Minister of Education and Human Resources Development Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, Minister of Awqaf Dr. Mohammad Al-Khalayleh, Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman, President of the University of Jordan Dr. Nathir Obeidat, CEO of the Crown Prince Foundation Tamam Mango, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Youth and member of the Award's Board of Trustees Dr. Mazen Abu Baqar, UNICEF Representative in Jordan Marc Rubin, several members of the Award's Board of Trustees, the management committee, the jury, representatives of national, youth, and civil society institutions, international organizations, and a number of winners from previous cycles.
In his speech, Dr. Al-Adwan emphasized that the Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II Volunteering Award, launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince in 2021 to celebrate International Volunteer Day in partnership with the Crown Prince Foundation and UNICEF, is the most prestigious national honorary award granted in the field of volunteering. It aims to encourage volunteer work, direct energies toward it, consolidate the values and culture of volunteering, activate social responsibility among institutions, and honor those with distinguished volunteer work that has a positive impact.
He also noted that the fourth cycle of the award follows three previous cycles that witnessed the participation of more than 47,000 applicants across the award's various categories and fields. It also follows a series of preparations that included amending the award's bylaws to institutionalize its work, strengthen governance, and develop operational mechanisms in line with the accumulated experience of the three cycles, as well as enhancing its tools to serve its national goals, thereby strengthening the independence of the evaluation process and expanding participation to include all residents of the Kingdom.
Dr. Al-Adwan pointed out that the award has never been just an honor; it is a recognition of impact, an appreciation of effort, and a celebration of models that have made serving people a path to construction, initiative a title for responsibility, and giving a practice that contributes to serving society.
He added that the award opens its doors to every Jordanian man and woman, and to every resident on the Kingdom's land who contributes their time, effort, and expertise to serving society, stressing that volunteer work embodies deep-rooted Jordanian values of solidarity, cooperation, and helping others.
He pointed out that the award is based on measuring impact, documenting the stories and experiences of volunteers, and highlighting models that have been able to turn belonging into action, initiative into impact, and giving into a sustainable value in society.
Dr. Al-Adwan concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of continuing to support volunteer work, appreciating those behind initiatives and volunteer projects, and promoting a culture of volunteering in Jordanian society.
The vision and mission of the award are represented in excellence in volunteer work to serve Jordanian society, expanding the spread of the culture of volunteering, enabling individuals and institutions to apply standards of excellence in their volunteer projects and initiatives, and motivating and honoring the distinguished while sharing their success stories.
The philosophy of the award is based on three fundamental principles: appreciation, motivation, and fostering a spirit of individual and institutional competition to present volunteer work and disseminate the experiences of distinguished volunteer efforts.
The award is based on the principles of giving, leadership and innovation, equal opportunity and equality, social responsibility, transparency, sustainability, and motivation.
Applications for the award can be submitted through its four categories: the best individual volunteer work category, the best volunteer team category, the best volunteer project category (social responsibility) for for-profit institutions, and the best volunteer project category for non-profit institutions.
The fields of volunteer work for which one can apply include social, health, educational or training, sports, artistic, cultural, environmental, tourism, and leadership and innovation fields.
Registration for the award continues until the end of November 2026, followed by a three-stage evaluation process for nominations, including initial screening, desk evaluation, and field evaluation, leading to the nomination of the best volunteer works that have met the award's model criteria based on the axes of planning for the volunteer initiative, implementation, continuity of volunteer work, and impact and results.
Candidates compete for 12 awards for the best volunteer works, as the award will be granted to the top three winners in each category. A certificate of participation will also be awarded to all applicants for volunteer work in recognition of their efforts in the field of volunteering.
