The 25th edition of the Amman International Book Fair will kick off on September 24 and continue until October 3, with the participation of about 22 countries and around 400 Jordanian, Arab, and international publishing houses, alongside a rich cultural program of events, seminars, and meetings.
The director of the Amman International Book Fair, Jaber Abu Fares, said in an interview with the program 'Pulse of Opinion' that this year's fair will see the participation of several publishing houses participating for the first time, alongside providing an opportunity for local cultural institutions to participate and organize their events within the fair's program.
Abu Fares pointed out that the Syrian Arab Republic is the guest of honor for the current edition, explaining that its selection comes in light of the brotherly relations, proximity, and cultural and intellectual overlap between Jordan and Syria, with the aim of providing the Jordanian public and visitors to the fair with the opportunity to get to know the Syrian literary, cultural, and intellectual heritage closely.
He added that the cultural program will see the participation of a number of Syrian writers and intellectuals, providing a space for cultural exchange between Jordanian and Syrian writers, intellectuals, and publishers, and opening the door for further partnerships between publishing houses in the two countries.
Abu Fares explained that this year's edition has a special feature as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Amman International Book Fair, affirming that over the past years, the fair has managed to transform from a book-selling event into a well-established annual cultural event in the Jordanian and Arab scenes, and a platform that brings together publishers, writers, intellectuals, and readers.
He emphasized that the fair continues to focus on the new generations, affirming the presence of the book and its ability to create dialogue and influence, alongside the transformations witnessed by the publishing sector and technology, pointing to the importance of preserving the printed book alongside keeping up with digital books and electronic platforms.
Regarding the times for receiving visitors, Abu Fares clarified that the fair receives its visitors daily from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM, except on Fridays, when visitors are received from 4:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
He pointed out that the program includes events dedicated to children, including stories, face painting, and learning through play, with the aim of strengthening children's relationship with books and reading and building a generation of readers.
He noted that the current edition celebrates Jordanian storytelling under the slogan 'Land and Human', alongside organizing seminars and events in a number of cultural institutions and centers, as part of expanding participation and strengthening partnership with national cultural institutions.
Abu Fares praised the role of the Ministry of Culture, Amman Greater Municipality, and the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, as partners and supporters of the fair, affirming the importance of these partnerships in the success of the annual cultural event.
The Amman International Book Fair is being held this year from September 24 to October 3, with Arab and international participation and a diverse cultural program
