King Abdullah II, during his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on Tuesday, stressed the need to intensify international efforts to restore stability in the region, and to resort to diplomacy and dialogue to resolve conflicts.
During the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in the presence of HRH Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, His Majesty emphasized that the region will not enjoy stability without granting the Palestinians their full legitimate rights and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the two-state solution.
His Majesty also warned of the seriousness of Israeli measures to annex land and expand settlements in the West Bank, and the repeated attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Guterres praised the efforts of the Kingdom, under His Majesty's leadership, to achieve peace and stability in the region and the world, commending Jordan's cooperation with UN organizations.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Director of His Majesty's Office, Engineer Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Walid Obayedat.
