An important and proud report published by the Jordan News Agency (Petra), written by journalist Bushra Nairoukh, sheds light on a new Jordanian innovator who has emerged globally and achieved accomplishments and awards thanks to his hard work, expertise, and perseverance: Dr. Suleiman Al-Shuqran, the Jordanian "Nashmi" who began his creative journey from Ramtha to reach global prominence at the forefront of technical innovation.
Al-Shuqran earned his bachelor's degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology, his master's degree from Concordia University, and his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Quebec, crowning this academic journey with about 20 years of deep experience in telecommunications, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.
Today, Al-Shuqran is a prominent figure at Google Cloud, having achieved approximately 40 globally registered patents in the US Patent Office. Most notably, he invented a parental control system to block pornographic websites at the source by monitoring internet directory phone queries without the need to breach secure encryption, as well as a car speed monitoring invention to save lives based on the angle of arrival of radio signals and the Pythagorean theorem.
Al-Shuqran spent about 10 years in advanced roles including research and development and network engineering at global company Ericsson, before moving to T-Mobile to serve as the leader of 5G cloud network engineering and design, where he led the project to launch the world's first cloud-based 5G network.
Al-Shuqran stated that he led the design of the world's first cloud 5G network for T-Mobile, and spent a full decade in research and development at Ericsson, to become today the Chief Architect for Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence at Google Cloud. He was awarded the 2026 Elite Club Award, granted to the top 1% of the company's engineers.
Serving the people of Jordan, he worked as a key driver to secure (free) access to the advanced "Gemini Pro" version for all Jordanian university students, aiming to open horizons of innovation for Jordanian youth, as a qualitative initiative designed to empower youth and students with modern artificial intelligence tools and enhance academic research and innovation.
While he believes that qualified human capital is the true essence of any digital resilience, and that technology must always be harnessed to protect humanity and serve society, he warns that the greatest challenge in adopting artificial intelligence is not in the models themselves, but in qualifying human energies and preparing institutional culture.
Dr. Al-Shuqran and his fellow Jordanian innovators inside and outside Jordan are a great and vital asset to Jordan and its national economy. The achievements, inventions, and global awards they attain are undoubtedly a source of pride for us all, and it is essential and important to communicate with them at the highest levels to plan for the future of our upcoming generations.
The Higher Council for Future Technology may currently be the strongest driver in this field, as it works to communicate with all globally minded Jordanian innovators to link their achievements to Jordan, and discusses with them how they can serve their homeland with their knowledge and expertise just as Al-Shuqran did.. May God protect Jordan.
