Jordan hosts the 2nd International Camel Endurance Championship

The Kingdom will host on the 21st of this month the Second International Camel Endurance Championship, on a track stretching 12 kilometres, with the participation of both men and women categories.

Hosting the championship at the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan racetrack in the Disi area of Wadi Rum comes as part of strengthening Jordan's position on the international camel sports scene, supporting the development of endurance races, and expanding women's participation in this authentic sport.

The total prize pool amounts to approximately $50,000, distributed equally between the two categories, with prizes awarded to the top ten winners in each category.

The events will take place concurrently with the 6th Jordan Camel Racing and Nabati Poetry Festival, which is held under the patronage of Crown Prince HRH Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.

Also held within the festival's program is the "Most Beautiful Camel" competition, with registration for participation in this competition closing tomorrow, Saturday.

The Jordanian Camel Committee had issued instructions and registration conditions limiting participation to Jordanian nationals, restricting participation to only one camel per person, requiring the participating camel to be at least of the "Jadhaa" category (heifers or young bulls), ensuring the camel is broken for riding and fully equipped with a saddle and all its accessories, and stipulating that the rider must be at least 18 years old and not participating in human- or robotic-rided camel races.

The committee indicated that the participating camels will be subject to specific and clear conditions for evaluation by the selection committee, and marks will be assigned using numbers without knowing the owner's name, to ensure transparency. Results will also be announced along with remarks, while the committee's decision shall be final and no objections are permitted after the results are issued.

On another note, and as part of youth activities, the Disi Youth Center, in cooperation with the Hawd Disi Municipality, held an awareness lecture within the "Correct Choice" initiative, hosting the Head of the Hawd Disi Municipality Committee, Harb Al-Owaidat.

The lecture aimed to empower youth and direct their energies toward correct decision-making skills and the importance of assuming responsibility so that youth can be good and influential role models in their communities.

Al-Owaidat addressed the necessity of adhering to laws, promoting the values of good citizenship, and actively engaging in volunteer work that serves and elevates the local community.

Participants appreciated this event, which is keen on direct communication with youth through qualitative programs and initiatives that build awareness, foster their sense of belonging, and open broader horizons for positive and active participation.

Furthermore, the Aqaba Youth Directorate organized an introductory session on the fourth cycle of the Hussein Award for Voluntary Work, with the participation of a number of youth and community initiative owners in the governorate.

The award's ambassadors reviewed the axes, categories, and nomination mechanism, emphasizing the importance of its pioneering role in spreading and rooting the culture of volunteering, and motivating distinguished community initiatives that serve the local community.
