On the occasion of World Teachers' Day 2026, we, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNRWA, and the International Labour Organization, join the voices of teachers, learners, families, and communities across the Kingdom to celebrate teachers and recognize their pivotal contribution to Jordan's development and future.
This year's theme, "Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Action to Protect the Teaching Profession, Enhance its Status, and Shape Our Future", coincides with the 60th anniversary of the ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which continues to guide global efforts to strengthen the teaching profession and improve the quality of education for all, through respect for labor rights, social dialogue, equal pay, and decent working conditions.
Teachers are the cornerstone of every successful education system. They inspire learning, foster creativity, promote critical thinking, and contribute to building more inclusive, resilient, and prosperous societies.
In Jordan, teachers have shown exceptional dedication in supporting the learning and well-being of all children and youth, including refugee and vulnerable children and youth. Their commitment remains a key driver in efforts to improve the quality of education and expand opportunities for every learner.
Therefore, the dedication of teachers must be supported by ensuring they have the time, practical tools, and sustained professional support they need to help every child acquire solid foundational skills, catch up on missed learning, and prepare for continued education, work, and adulthood. This includes equipping teachers with the skills to identify learning difficulties early and adapt teaching methods to meet learners' needs, so that every child, including children with disabilities, can learn and thrive in a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
Jordan continues to invest in enhancing the teaching profession through teacher preparation, ongoing professional development, and educational leadership.
International data indicates that nearly all primary school teachers in Jordan have received professional training, while recent initiatives have provided learning and professional development opportunities for over 3,250 education workers, more than 260 vocational education and training teachers, and over 3,500 teachers in 161 UNRWA schools across the Kingdom.
These efforts contribute to enhancing long-term opportunities, inclusion, and resilience for all children and youth in Jordan, including Palestinian refugees, by enabling teachers to respond to changing educational needs and implement innovative and inclusive teaching practices. Building on this progress, Jordan's recently launched Education Strategic Plan 2026-2030 places teacher development, quality education, digital readiness powered by AI, inclusion, and the resilience of the education system at the core of the country's education reform agenda, recognizing that empowered and adequately supported teachers are essential for achieving quality, inclusive, and future-ready education for all.
Standing with teachers, both women and men, means recognizing the challenges they face. Across Jordan, as in other countries, teachers work in an increasingly complex environment, responding to diverse learning needs, digital transformation, climate-related pressures, and emergencies. Maintaining a strong teaching profession requires continued attention to teachers' working conditions, professional autonomy, career development, well-being, and active participation in decisions affecting their profession.
On this World Teachers' Day, we reaffirm our commitment to working alongside the Government of Jordan and national partners to enhance the teaching profession, support teachers' professional growth and well-being, promote decent work, fair pay, and equal opportunities.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all teachers across Jordan. Your dedication and professionalism continue to transform lives and shape a brighter future for generations to come.
Today, and every day, we stand with teachers. Investing in teachers is investing in Jordan's future.
