Jordan and Yemen open new horizons for cultural, creative, and heritage cooperation

The Ministry of Culture signed, on Wednesday, a cultural cooperation memorandum with the Republic of Yemen, aimed at enhancing cultural, creative, and heritage exchange between the two countries, and expanding partnership areas to include the digitization of archives and manuscripts, the development of digital cultural content, and utilizing artificial intelligence techniques in heritage preservation and management.

The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Jordanian side by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture, Dr. Nidal Ibrahim Al-Ahmad, and on behalf of the Yemeni side by the Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to the Kingdom, Dr. Jalal Ibrahim Faqira.

Al-Ahmad stated that the memorandum comes within the framework of developing cultural and historical relations between the two countries and enhancing knowledge and creative exchange, pointing to the cooperation agreement signed between the two sides in 2000.

He added that the memorandum establishes cooperation in the fields of arts, literature, publishing, translation, safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, supporting cultural and creative industries, alongside exchanging expertise in digital transformation and the digitization of cultural content.

He emphasized the importance of translating the memorandum's provisions into joint programs and projects that would enhance communication between cultural institutions and creators in both countries, and exchange experiences and expertise in a way that serves Arab culture, preserves civilizational heritage, and enhances its presence among future generations.

Al-Ahmad recalled the most prominent aspects of cooperation and Yemeni participation in cultural and heritage events and programs hosted by the Kingdom.

For his part, Faqira affirmed that the memorandum reflects the keenness of both countries to develop cultural, creative, and heritage cooperation, and to expand exchange opportunities in artistic and cognitive fields.

He pointed to the importance of organizing joint cultural events, exhibitions, and weeks, and enhancing cooperation in documenting and safeguarding cultural heritage, which contributes to highlighting the civilizational identity of the two countries and introducing the richness of their cultural heritage.

He noted that cooperation in the fields of digitization and creative industries provides opportunities to benefit from modern technologies in preserving heritage and publishing cultural content, and opens new horizons for creators and cultural institutions in both countries.

Areas of cooperation include intangible cultural heritage, performing and visual arts, literature, publishing, translation, libraries, cultural centers, traditional crafts, cultural media, and cultural and creative industries.

The memorandum also includes exchanging expertise in the digitization of archives and manuscripts, developing joint digital platforms for cultural content, and utilizing virtual and augmented reality technologies and artificial intelligence in preserving and managing cultural data.

The memorandum stipulates the implementation of joint programs including the exchange of cultural and artistic delegations and experts, organizing cultural weeks, holding festivals, exhibitions, forums, and workshops, implementing capacity-building training programs in cultural management, as well as exchanging publications, prints, and audiovisual materials.

The memorandum lasts for five years, with an emphasis on protecting intellectual property rights for joint projects, thereby enhancing cultural partnership and expanding areas of communication between institutions and creators in both countries.
